Concept Design for the new museum at the Islamic University of Riyadh
Project Highlight: Meso Space presents the new museum for the Islamic University of Riyadh, a fusion of concrete structures and rammed earth, which generates a highly sustainable structure with excellent heat retention and fireproof properties. Its versatility and durability make it a low-maintenance solution. Seamlessly blending organic forms with shapes resembling the curves of desert sands, the design is inspired by traditional Saudi village cores and Arabian desert building typologies. The overall shape of the museum seamlessly integrates with the natural desert landscape, while also showcasing a stylized aesthetic.
The symmetrical design of galleries and fluid ceiling spaces fosters harmony, seamlessly integrating both indoor and outdoor exhibition areas. Environmental considerations drive the design, with natural shade, light and water-sensitive elements integrated throughout. The museum features a natural cooling system, drawing on traditional wind tower mechanisms, ensuring a sustainable and comfortable environment for visitors to explore and engage with Islamic history and culture.
