Proposal for Chodov’s Harmony Heaven: Preserving History, Embracing Modernity
Project Highlight: Nestled within the heart of Chodov’s Old Town in Czech Republic, the ancient stone church—once silent and weathered—has found new purpose under the skilled hands of Meso Space’s design team. This architectural metamorphosis seamlessly blends historical charm with contemporary design, creating a haven where past and present coexist harmoniously.
The exterior view reveals a delicate dance between old and new. Meso Space proposed a daring glass façade, carefully fitted within the remnants of the demolished stone walls. Black-framed modern glass curtain walls now stand alongside ancient stones, paying homage to the layers of history that define this place. The play of light and shadow against the weathered surfaces evokes a sense of mystery—a bridge across centuries. The medieval tower, once isolated, now stands embraced by sleek glass walls. The stone wall of the ancient church becomes an integral part of the design, its rough textures juxtaposed with contemporary furnishings.
Concrete steps lead guests to the entrance—an elegant staircase surrounded by the remnants of a medieval wall. At night, soft illumination breathes life into the ancient stones, revealing their timeless beauty. Large modern glass windows frame views of the surrounding landscape, inviting nature into the space. The interior, bathed in natural light, features minimalist furniture and carefully curated lighting—a nod to both history and comfort.
Crucially, Meso Space’s proposal has worked in conjunction with local council protocols and heritage requirements, ensuring that every addition respects the old while celebrating the new. The result has become a tranquil haven where patrons savour culinary delights and find solace in the echoes of centuries past. The repurposed church, now a restaurant and guesthouse, stands as a testament to thoughtful design—a place where the whispers of medieval Chodov blend seamlessly with the rhythms of modern life.
