Proposal for Cor10 Park, Altona (VIC)
Project Highlight: Meso Space’s design for Cor10 Park seamlessly integrates Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles with aesthetic considerations, creating a harmonious and sustainable urban green space in the Altona suburb of Melbourne. Through strategic landscaping and permeable surfaces, the park effectively manages stormwater runoff, mitigating the risk of flooding while replenishing groundwater supplies. The incorporation of WSUD elements not only enhances the park’s environmental resilience but also fosters a deeper connection between visitors and nature, inviting them to explore and engage with their surroundings.
In addition to its functional benefits, Cor10 Park stands out for its distinctive aesthetic appeal. The prominent use of Corten steel elements, such as the raised rusty steel bed and circular planters, adds an industrial-chic flair to the park’s design, capturing the essence of Altona’s vibrant urban landscape. Against the backdrop of lush native shrubs and greenery, the weathered patina of the Corten steel creates a visually striking contrast, evoking a sense of modernity and creativity. As a result, Cor10 Park emerges as a dynamic and inviting public space, celebrating the intersection of art, nature, and urban design in the heart of Melbourne.
