Integrated Water Management System for Evergreen Estate, Playford (SA)

Integrated Water Management System in Evergreen Estate, Playford (SA)

Project Highlight: Evergreen Estate, located in the Adelaide suburb of Playford, embodies innovative sustainability principles seamlessly integrated into its residential design. Developed by Meso Space, this community housing project features affordable single and double-storey houses nestled on spacious lots averaging 350 square meters, with dimensions of approx. 10 meters wide by 35 meters deep. However, what truly sets Evergreen Estate apart is its unique water management system.

At the heart of each backyard lies a hidden gem: a triangular soaking pit and rainwater tank, approximately 4 meters wide and 1 meter deep, discreetly buried underground. Ingeniously, the dividing fence between backyards rests atop this soaking pit, creating a great stretch of lush greenery in between backyards, extending from both properties. This innovative system not only conserves water but also enhances the microclimate of the area. The collected rainwater can be reused within residences for various purposes, including watering gardens, washing, and flushing toilets. It’s estimated that each unit can save up to 40% of water consumption annually, contributing significantly to sustainable living practices.

Meso Space’s visionary design at Evergreen Estate demonstrates a commitment to both environmental stewardship and community well-being. By integrating cutting-edge water management solutions into everyday suburban life, this project not only reduces water usage but also fosters a sense of connection to nature within the community. Through thoughtful planning and innovative design, Evergreen Estate represents a model for sustainable residential development, paving the way for a greener, more eco-conscious future.
