The White Church in Manama, Bahrain
Project Highlight: Meso Space’s design for the White Church in Bahrain near the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) compound, is a testament to modern architectural innovation and a significant gesture towards the Christian minority in the country. The building, standing alone against a clear blue sky, features a symmetrical facade design with large, rounded windows. The exterior, covered in smooth concrete, showcases an abstract art style that combines various elements, including those inspired by the shape of an eel’s body and head. The building’s organic shape with rounded corners and multiple arched structures on the front facade adds to its uniqueness. The structure has multiple levels of curved walls that create dynamic patterns along its exterior, and large windows on three sides offer views of sea or urban landscapes. The exterior walls have undulating curves that create visual texture, further enhancing its appeal.
The creation of such a prominent and architecturally significant Christian church can be interpreted as a recognition and celebration of the Christian community’s presence in Bahrain. It provides a dedicated space for worship and community activities. The church, with its modern and innovative design, also symbolizes the integration of the Christian community within the broader Bahraini society. It stands as a testament to Bahrain’s commitment to religious freedom and inclusivity. This design promises to be a landmark in Bahrain, redefining the architectural landscape.
